Post Wedding Functions
After all the rituals have been followed in the main day
wedding function. There are still some more to be followed. And those are
called the post day wedding rituals. According to Hindu tradition after
the completion of the marriage ceremony rituals like the aashirvaad or
blessing ceremony, vadaai or the bride's departure, Pilucinchuanu are
followed. These rituals are performed mainly at the place of the wedding,
which is the bride's home normally. But there are other rituals, which are
followed at the grooms place and they are pani varna, where the groom's
mother performs aarti with a pitcher of water of the newly wedded couple.
Among the other customs are like before entering the groom's house the
bride knock over a vial of mustard oil or an urn of rice. She enters the
house by keeping her right foot first because her first step is considered
auspicious. New bride is considered as Goddess Laxmi according to Hindu
traditions.
Rituals like aashirvaad or blessings are important post wedding customs where the Brahmin blesses the bride and groom after the completion of the marriage ceremony. The guests who attain the wedding ceremony showers flower petals and rice on the bride and groom with blessings. Later on the guests give their individual blessings to the bride and groom. After the completion of the marriage ceremony they were invited for a delicious meal. Viddai ceremony is the farewell to the bride by her family and friends before she goes to her husbands place. The bride is leaving her parents home to build a life with her husband and his family. Pilucinchuanu is a ritual, which concludes the wedding ceremony here the priest places a coconut in front of the car and wait for it to be broken before the newly wedded couple heads for the temple to take the blessing. These are some of the rituals, which sums up the post wedding functions.
